Donna Teakell Jones

Strength, courage, determination and fighter are only a few of the words that can be used to describe Donna Jones.  The one word, though, that gets to the heart of who Donna was is faithful. Her faith in God and her belief that He is good and is in control could be seen in her every day, especially during her battle against breast cancer.  Donna Jones, wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, triple negative breast cancer.  She went through six combinations of chemotherapy, all the while, the cancer continued to grow.  Giving up was not in her nature, so she persued treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.  She endured 3 months of excruciating chemo.  It was the hardest chemotherapy that she had.  Despite the aggressive treatment, the cancer progressed.  After surgery to remove tumors, she made a second trip to MD Anderson for radiation.  Her scans came back clean and she was told that there was no evidence of the disease.  Donna and her family took a magical trip to Disney World to celebrate the news of her remission.  Soon after, a nagging cough brought her back to the doctor where a CT scan showed cancer nodules. It had returned.
Throughout her fight, Donna never gave up hope.  She continued to teach 4th grade full time during her cancer treatments.  She spent her days in the classroom teaching math and science, her late afternoons napping and her evenings with her husband and two children.  Donna was surrounded with love and support from coworkers, friends and family.  The lessons she taught reached far beyond the scope of math and science.  We learned from Donna that bad things happen to very good people, sometimes you have to "fake it 'till you make it", say "I love you" ~ often, life is not fair, God is good all the time, and losing someone you love hurts beyond belief.
Not a day goes by that Donna isn't thought about, talked about, loved and missed.
She continues to reach out, showing love and comfort to cancer patients that stay at Donna's House.
